Benefits of Using Fermented Rice Bran to Produce Single-Cell Protein for Fly Larvae

  • Enhanced Nutritional Value
Fermented rice bran becomes richer in protein, essential amino acids, and B-complex vitamins—critical nutrients that support healthy development and rapid growth in fly larvae.
  • Source of Single-Cell Protein (SCP)
During fermentation, microorganisms proliferate, turning the bran into a valuable source of microbial protein (SCP) that is highly digestible and nutrient-dense.
  • Boosts Growth and Survival Rate of Fly Larvae
The fine protein structure from microbial cells is ideal for the digestive systems of larvae, leading to faster growth, stronger larvae, and improved survival rates.
  • Improves Larval Digestion
Fermented bran naturally contains beneficial enzymes like protease, amylase, and cellulase, which help break down food and make nutrients more bioavailable to the larvae.
  • Reduces Odor and Controls Harmful Microbes
Proper fermentation inhibits the growth of pathogenic microbes and reduces foul odors in the rearing environment, keeping the system healthier.
  • Cost-Effective Feed Alternative
Fermented rice bran is a low-cost, nutrient-rich alternative to commercial feed, significantly reducing production costs in insect farming operations.
  • Supports Sustainable Agriculture
Utilizing agricultural byproducts like rice bran for insect feed contributes to waste recycling and circular farming, promoting environmentally friendly and sustainable practices.

Set up the Synbiotics facility

  • Rice Bran:           1 kg
  • Yellow CapTM :     5 gram (5.0 gram per 1 kg of rice bran)
  • NaHCO3 :                100 gram (10% base on total weight of rice bran)
  • Water :                     2 liter

Direction:

  • Fill up the tank with water (warm water 40 CO is preferably).
  • Add 200 gram of NaHCO3 per 1 kilogram of rice bran.
  • Add 5 gram of Yellow CapTM and mix well the solution
  • Add grinded full fat rice bran (fine powder).
  • Make sure the tank is large enough (at least 2.5 times larger than the solution to be ferment).
  • Ferment for at least 48 hours (stir well occasionally).
  • This solution is not suitable for storage.
  • Use completely, or refrigerate for subsequent use.
  • Before feeding, allow it to return to room temperature prior to feeding.
